Organization Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to increase the popularity of our common interests. We hope to add new members so we will be able to grow and expand. We hope to hold joint meetings with FSUAS, and increase students' interest in our organization. We also want to give members volunteer opportunities with field work. By developing relationships and friendships, the organization will become even stronger.

Our Mission
Our mission is to keep members of the organization informed with Anthropological and Archaeological matters. We will provide an outlet for members to come listen to professional presentations. Field trips to Archaeological sites will be planned, along with annual cleanups to the Velda Mound site complex off of Thomasville road. Occasional volunteer fieldwork opportunities will be made available to PAST members as they become available. Members of PAST strive to make a difference by educating the public and expanding our reach.
PAST is in charge of the stewardship and care of Velda Mound. Velda Mound (Site LE44), is located in the Arbor Hill neighborhood north of Tallahassee (off of Thomasville Rd.) Velda Mound was occupied by the Apalachee ca. 1450-1625 AD. The mound is believed to have served as a residence platform for the village leader. In the 1940's Velda Mound was owned by Velda Dairy Farm. In the 1950's, a trench was bulldozed through the top of the mound. The trench has since been filled and Velda Mound is now owned by the State. PAST is now in charge of stewardship and care of the mound.
